Highlights – Extract your PDF annotations

Highlights for Mac is the PDF reader that summarizes for you.

Highlights lets you highlight text and select images in the PDF, but take notes in a regular text-editor. No more typing notes and comments into tiny text boxes. Your PDF annotations and notes are extracted and formatted into a neat summary as you make them. Save your summary to disk, share it via email or archive it in your Evernote or DEVONthink library.

*Whether you are preparing for an exam, reviewing a manuscript or doing a literature review, taking notes in a traditional PDF reader can be cumbersome.*

Highlights extracts highlighted text, comments and image selections from already annotated PDFs when you open them. New annotations are extracted as you make them. The annotations are sorted and formatted into a neat summary which you can easily share via email, save to disk or archive in shoebox applications like Evernote, DEVONthink and VoodooPad.

*Email your corrections back to the author, save a summary to Evernote or just archive your highlights to a HTML-file on disk.*

Highlights keeps your PDF and Markdown notes in sync. Use it to bring out important sections by highlighting text and selecting figures that should be memorized, mark up text corrections and note references for lookups. Add comments and figure captions in Markdown. Your notes are synced back to the corresponding annotation in the PDF.

PDFs are like paper, abundant and made for reading. And like paper, they are typically the end point of creation. If you want an intuitive way to take notes on PDFs or just end up having to go back through PDFs looking for your own notes – Highlights can be of service.
